26LC 01 011 ESCI - Climate Change is a Global Issue, but Who Holds the Responsibility to Act?; How to teach Climate Action with Care

In environmental & climate change education, the burden of responsibility is often placed upon the learner. 'Climate change is affecting everyone - here are actions you can take to help: recycle, don't waste water, turn off the lights etc." Though these are important actions to take, learning about climate change can often cause extreme stress and anxiety in children. While it is important of course to teach the idea of individual responsibility - we must ensure that the child or learner, understands that while they hold a common responsibility to look after our planet, they have not caused climate change, it is not their responsibility to fix it.
