Wedensday 1st - Monday 6th in Queen of Angels PS, Tuesday 7th July Airfield Estate
During this course, organised by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and Research Ireland's Curious Minds and ESERO teams, facilitator Una Halpin will guide you in teaching children about climate change through hands‑on, inquiry‑based STEM learning that supports teachers in transitioning to the new STE and SSE curricula. This course will feature a day at Airfield Estate, where Una will make full use of the beautiful outdoor areas and learning opportunities. You will explore topics such as the science of climate change, the role of space exploration in understanding the Earth’s systems, and the importance of biodiversity. Throughout the course, you will learn practical ways to teach this increasingly relevant topic in a positive and solutions‑focused way.
While primarily STEM-based, the course makes strong links with language and literacy, as well as the creative arts, and a cross-curricular approach is demonstrated throughout. Una will highlight the links between climate change and wellbeing, showing how to help children connect meaningfully with the natural world and take simple, constructive actions at school and at home. Participants will also have access to a wide range of high‑quality resources from Curious Minds, ESERO Ireland and SEAI.
The booking fee is non-refundable. All Summer Courses qualify for EPV days provided you complete the full course over 5 days. Blackrock Education Centre has the right to cancel a course if we DO NOT have the minimum numbers required.
